Learning objectives: From this video you will see several techniques used to reduce recurrence rate and minimise post op complications with both a laterally-placed ventral hernia and a small umbilical hernia.

Clinical/research background

Bruce completed his surgical specialty training in Melbourne, Australia, and then worked for ten years as a general surgeon in the rural Australian community of Echuca-Moama before relocating to Edinburgh in 2002 where he developed his special interests in general abdominal laparoscopic surgery, bariatrics and hernia surgery. He has published widely on a wide variety of general surgery topics. Bruce and colleagues from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh hosted the successful European Hernia Society meeting in Edinburgh in May 2014.
