Title of presentation: Evidence-based guideline recommendations on cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for peritoneal carcinomatosis of colorectal cancer origin (New Trials Forum: Guidelines synthesis)

Learning objectives: The objective of this presentation is to provide an overview of excisting national guidelines on CR/HIPEC treatment for colorectal cancer. Details of a systematic search for relevant guidelines, quality criteria of the content of the identified guidelines, topics that are addressed, and the scientific background of recommendations will be presented. Main topics in this field include diagnostic work-up, patient selection for CR/HIPEC, and methodology of the HIPEC procedure. Discrepancies among countries will be discussed, with issues that may be explored by future research projects.

Clinical/research background

Since 2010, consultant gastrointestinal and oncologic surgeon at the AMC in Amsterdam, with clinical focus on colorectal and liver surgery. PhD thesis in 2002 on sentinel node biopsy in breast and penile carcinoma. Since 2005, research focus on colorectal cancer. Principle investigator of the BIOPEX study (multicentre RCT, biomesh following ELAPE) and COLOPEC study (multicentre RCT, adjuvant HIPEC T4 colon cancer). Member of the national colorectal cancer guideline committee. Secretary of the Dutch Colorectal Cancer Group. Associate Editor of Colorectal Disease and Digestive Surgery. Member of the scientific committee of the Dutch Surgical Colorectal Audit.
