Carolynne Vaizey |
Carolynne VaizeyCarolynne Jane Vaizey was educated at Cape Town University and then trained in General and Trauma Surgery up to consultant level in Johannesburg. On returning to England in 1992 she first worked as a surgical fellow in a district general hospital and then took up a research post at St Mark’s Hospital in Harrow to obtain an MD through the University of London. At the beginning of 1998 she became a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Middlesex & University College Hospitals in Central London and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London. In 2003 she took up a new post as Consultant Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital. She has particular interests in the management of faecal incontinence, intestinal failure, severe Crohn’s, anal surgery and functional bowel disease. She is the Lead Surgeon for Intestinal Failure at the Lennard Jones National Intestinal Failure Unit at St Mark’s and Director of the Sir Alan Park’s Physiology Unit. She has written 16 book chapters on her specialty interests and has over 100 papers and editorials published in Peer reviewed journals. |

Afterwards she worked for two years as a colorectal fellow in Adelaide, Australia. She started as a colorectal consultant in 2009 at Maastricht University Medical Center, the Netherlands. In 2006 she defended her PhD: Laparoscopic TME for rectal cancer. Dr Breukink has developed subspecialty interests in quality of life after colorectal cancer treatment and surgical management of disorders of the pelvic floor and enterocutaneous fistulae. |

Mark Katory |
Mark KatoryMark has been a consultant colorectal surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead since 2007 where he specializes in minimally invasive rectal surgery, advanced pelvic cancer surgery and works closely with the North-East of England regional Gynae-oncology unit for advanced pelvic disease which is based in Gateshead. Following his surgical residency in Sheffield, U.K. he undertook his colorectal fellowship at the central tertiary referral centre in Singapore for laparoscopic colorectal surgery before returning to his hometown as a UK National Preceptor in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and later as part of the LAPCO Programme preceptor for many of the units in the north-east of England. He has an MD in colorectal cancer genetics from the University of Sheffield and has published and presented work both nationally and internationally. He sits on ESCP Programme, Communication and Guidelines committees. His academic interest is in rectal cancer surgery. He has recently been appointed as Trust lead clinician for cancer and as a Trainer with the forthcoming UK training initiative for Transanal Mesorectal Excision. Mark is involved in ESCP's TaTME Guidance Group which first convened at ESCP Berlin 2017. |
