Richard is also a member of the ESCP Communications Committee, chair of the app development and previous website working groups. He is the owner of the social media and technology consultancy researchactive.com. He has held many previous representative positions and is a keen advocate of opening access to and the modernisation of high quality colorectal surgical care. His post-graduate research degree was on the subject of the chemoprevention of colorectal cancer and he is currently involved in a number of international collaborations, including as one of the founders of the #colorectalsurgery social media campaign.

Mark Katory

Mark has been a consultant colorectal surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead since 2007 where he specializes in minimally invasive rectal surgery, advanced pelvic cancer surgery and works closely with the North-East of England regional Gynae-oncology unit for advanced pelvic disease which is based in Gateshead.

Following his surgical residency in Sheffield, U.K. he undertook his colorectal fellowship at the central tertiary referral centre in Singapore for laparoscopic colorectal surgery before returning to his hometown as a UK National Preceptor in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery and later as part of the LAPCO Programme preceptor for many of the units in the north-east of England.

He has an MD in colorectal cancer genetics from the University of Sheffield and has published and presented work both nationally and internationally.

He sits on ESCP Programme, Communication and Guidelines committees. His academic interest is in rectal cancer surgery. He has recently been appointed as Trust lead clinician for cancer and as a Trainer with the forthcoming UK training initiative for Transanal Mesorectal Excision.
