Vienna is the capital and largest city in Austria, with a population of around 1.9 million; it is Austria’s cultural, economic, and political centre.
Vienna is located in north-eastern Austria, at the easternmost extension of the Alps in the Vienna Basin. The earliest settlement, at the location of today's inner city, was south of the meandering Danube while the city now spans both sides of the river. Vienna lies close to the borders of Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Visitors to Vienna can expect plenty of amazing experiences, the city’s architecture is incredible, and the city is rich in historical sites, from St Stephen's Cathedral to exploring Empress Sisi's old gymnasium in the 600-year-old Imperial Palace. The Danube itself provides much to do, with cruises available to see the city from a different viewpoint.
Vienna is known for its high quality of life. In a 2005 study of 127 world cities, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked the city first for the world's most liveable cities.

Visitors from non-Schengen countries can claim back Austrian VAT directly at Vienna Airport. Ask the salesperson directly for a “Tax Refund Cheque”, complete it and keep it together with your receipt.
You can have your stamped “Tax Refund Cheque/s” paid out at Interchange in any bank or at any currency exchange counter in Terminal 2 of Vienna Airport.
