Clinical/research background
Omar Faiz is a Consultant Surgeon at St Marks Hospital & Academic Institute and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College. His area of clinical interest is colorectal surgery, in particular the surgical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), hereditary cancer syndromes and colorectal cancer.
Omar is Director of Research at St Mark's hospital. He has wide research interests and supervises PhD research fellows at Imperial College. He has published widely on colorectal cancer epidemiology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, surgical outcome and surgical performance. He has authored over one-hundred-and-twenty-five peer-reviewed scientific publications, eleven book chapters and three medical text books.
Omar holds various leadership positions at a national level. He is the current Chairman of the Association of Coloproctologists of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) Inflammatory Bowel Disease subcommittee. He is an advisor to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). He is also Chair of the National Ileal Pouch Registry and represents the ACPGBI on the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Standards board and Audit. In addition, he chairs the surgery group within the Global Comparators (GC) partnership (an international surgical benchmarking group) and is an Associate Editor for the journal Colorectal Disease.
