Summary of clinical/research background

Yury Shelygin is Head of State Research Center of Coloproctology, Colorectal Surgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Chief Colorectal Surgeon of Moscow City Health Department, President of Russian Coloproctology Association, Editor in Chief of Russian journal 'Coloproctology' and co-editor of a number of Russian and international journals.

He has developed approach for surgical treatment of advanced rectal cancer as well as methods of plastic surgery for mid and low rectal malignancy.

Minimally-invasive surgery for malignant and benign diseases of colon and rectum is one of the main prof. Shelygin’s clinical and research interest. He is pioneer of hand-assisted laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Russia.

Another aspect of his practice is development and popularization of coloproctology service in regions of Russia. He pays a lot of attention to improvement of stoma rehabilitation system in Russian Federation.

He has authored or co-authored over 250 publications, 10 book chapters and more than 20 invention patents.
