Clinical/research background
Dr Rocco was Staff Surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Morelli Regional Hospital and Sanatorium, Sondalo, Northern Italy (1988 and 1999). After obtaining the ECFMG-USMLE certification in 1995 (indefinite validity), he was Visiting Resident (1995) and then Clinical Fellow in Advanced General Thoracic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Mayo Foundation (1996-7). He served as Senior Clinical Lecturer, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (2000-2004). Since November 2004, he has been Division Chief of Thoracic Surgery, and Department Head of Thoracic Surgery and Oncology, at the National Cancer Institute, Pascale Foundation in Naples.
Dr Rocco’s main research interests include epithelial to mesenchymal transition and cancer stem cells in non small cell lung cancer.
