Clinical/research background
Glen Doherty graduated from Trinity College Dublin. He completed his PhD degree in 2006 in the area of colorectal cancer at RCSI and the Conway Institute at University College Dublin, focusing on eicosanoid signalling pathways. He spent a period of further specialist training in the USA at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre and Harvard Medical School, Boston where he undertook a post-doctoral research programme with Professor Simon Robson in purinergic signaling in mucosal immunology and IBD.
Since 2010 he has worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Centre for Colorectal Disease at St Vincent's University Hospital and University College Dublin.
Glen has numerous peer-reviewed publications in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer and endoscopy. He is Honorary Treasurer of the Irish Society of Gastroenterology and National Representative for the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation.
